bean tostadas


  • 2 cups lettuce
  • 1 can refried beans
  • 4 ounces reduced fat cheddar cheese
  • 8 corn tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 cup salsa


  • Large bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Spatula
  • Cheese grater
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Broiler pan


  1. Preheat oven to broil setting.
  2. Wash hands.
  3. Lightly coat broiler pan with oil.
  4. Place all tortillas on pan. Place pan in oven on broil.
  5. Flip tortillas every minute or so until crispy (about 10 minutes). Remove when cooked and turn off the oven.
  6. Rinse lids of cans and open.
  7. Spoon beans into a microwave safe bowl and cover with paper towel. Heat for one minute to warm. Recycle can.
  8. Wash lettuce and pat dry and cut into fine shreds.
  9. Layer tostada shell with beans, cheese, lettuce, and salsa. Enjoy.
